I couldn’t talk about sustainability without mentioning @vestaireco - and when they got in touch to tell me about their new Circular Fashion Booklet (an easy guide to do it all better), I was so up for learning more & sharing the big takeaways for Fashion Revolution Week. So…We know that fashion is harming the environment (the production of 1kg of cotton textiles requires up to 30,000 litres of water and the release of up to 30 kilograms of CO2-equivalents) and it’s accelerating month on month, year on year. Buying vintage and secondhand clothes is one of the 7 elements of the circular fashion system which seeks to stem that tide. By buying pre-loved you eliminate the yarn and fabric production, product manufacturing and transport along the supply chain, saving significant natural resources. It’s also one of the ways I’ve built my wardrobe of designer clothes for close to high street prices. There’s no point beating about the bush, it’s harder work to shop this way. You can’t just one click to buy; there is no next day delivery. But nothing really worth having comes for free - and I’ve personally found that slowing the pace of my shopping down has made me appreciate what I'm buying so much more. When I was a teenager I was OBSESSED with shopping, but for a few years I've been a bit meh, caught up in the churn of instant gratification and then almost forgetting what I’d bought. These days, I personally love the anticipation of stalking down the perfect piece. It took me four months to find this Chanel bag. The amount of time I spent hunting it is probably worrying, but it’s now like a line on my palm and has been with me for the past five years, elevating everything else I own. The rewards of secondhand shopping are so worth the effort—and if you need any more convincing, have a look through my stories ❤️ #VCcircularchallenge
